When Jay met Taylor
outside Foo Fighters Studio 606 in Los Angeles, California - August 2011

Jay pushes the buzzer at Studio 606........
Reception: "Hello 606."
Jay: "Hi there, I'm on vacation from the UK with my wife and daughter, is it
possible to see the studio? Are the guys around today?"
Reception: "As you can imagine, you're not the first to ring the buzzer with
this request. I'm afraid it's a no, if I said yes to you, I'd have to say
yes to everybody."
Jay: "Yeah, totally understand. Only it is a little different maybe cos I
play in one of the top Foo Fighter Tribute Bands and it would be just great
to meet the guys
and see the studio."
Reception: "Erm.... just hold on one second, I'll ask."
Jay waves Helen over from the car.....
Reception: "Hi, Dave's not here but Taylor's gonna come out and see you,
just wait there!"
Electric gates slide open and Taylor appears through them in his beat up red
Toyota pick-up truck.
...... Taylor gestures to Jay to come around to the driver's side window.
Taylor: "Hi there."
Jay shakes Taylor's hand...
Jay: "Hi Taylor, it's Jay."
Taylor: "Hi Jay. And what's your little one called?"
Jay: "Georgie."
Taylor makes to say hi but Georgie is not impressed....
Taylor: "You look a little like Dave! I bet you've heard that before?"
Jay: "If anyone ever says so I always say, 'yeah right!' "
Taylor: "So how'd you find us?"
Jay: "Just looked up Studio 606 and up came the address."
Taylor: "That's cool, so what you guys doing here?"
Jay: "On vacation, staying in Venice...."
Taylor: "....and you thought you'd check out where the Foos rehearse?"
Jay: "Yep."
Taylor: "That's cool. I do the same when I'm in England, check out where
Queen played and recorded, same kinda thing. Where are you guys from,
Australia?"
Jay: "No, the UK, infact we saw you guys play in Milton Keynes last month."
Taylor: "Yeah, MK was great for us, much better than Wembley..... Wembley
was kinda freaky for us."
Jay: "We didn't get to Wembley, we were on vacation but MK was awesome,
think that's the 5th time we've seen you...."
Taylor: "So... you guys just, like, into the Foos then?"
Jay: "Well.... there's a bit more to it than that! About 5 years ago someone
said, 'you look a little like Dave and you sing his stuff pretty well, why
don't you do
a Foos thing?' "
Taylor: "Oh what, so you guys have a Foos cover band?"
Jay: "Yeah."
Taylor: "That's cool, I'm in a Police covers band, we played just the other
night."
Taylor: "Well, we've just been practising, just the 3 of us, Dave isn't here
today. Nate'll be out in a minute though...."
Jay produces a UK Foo Fighters flyer from his pocket and hands it to
Taylor....
Jay: "Tell Dave, I hope he doesn't mind, we borrowed the logos but this is
our flyer."
Taylor: "Hey, that's cool..... so this is you?"
Jay: "Yeah."
Taylor: "Hey.... you got the clear guitar, you got the t-shirt, lookin' a
little thinner than Dave though, ha! .....how old are you?"
Jay: "43."
Taylor: "Hah! Older than me then!"
Taylor grins and makes to select a gear...
Jay: "....sure you've been asked a million times but would you mind if we
got a quick photo?"
Taylor: "Yeah, that's cool."
Georgie is not impressed and shies away, hiding on Daddy's shoulder....
Taylor: "Hey, that's ok (to Georgie), I gotta see my little ones now...."
Jay: "Thanks Taylor, really appreciate your time."
Taylor waves goodbye to Georgie and Georgie waves back as he cruises off
down the street in his beat up truck, naked to the waist (as usual), beach
bum hair, shades on, arm out of the window and......... a UK Foos flyer on
his dashboard shelf! :) It don't get much better than that!!
Dave is known as the nicest guy in rock...... well after that encounter...
Taylor is the second nicest in my opinion!
